About Us

Practical education grounded in experience.

I’m Michaella Messenger, founder of Advanced Aesthetic Training. I’ve been practising electrolysis since 1987, and I’m passionate about helping practitioners understand their treatments, develop their skills and make informed decisions in clinic. My qualifications include a CIDESCO Diploma and an Advanced Aesthetician Diploma. My experience spans electrolysis, red vein elimination, cosmetic tattooing and advanced skin treatments, alongside developing and delivering professional education.

I previously co-owned an NZQA-registered private training establishment, where I helped develop training programmes and micro-credentials. Today, through AA Training, I bring that teaching experience together with the practical knowledge gained from working with clients and supporting other practitioners.

Understanding the “why”

Learning a treatment involves more than following a sequence or copying machine settings. It means understanding what you are trying to achieve, how tissue responds and when to adjust your approach. My teaching connects the science with what you see and feel during treatment. Students are encouraged to ask questions, work through challenges and understand the reasons behind their decisions.

AA Training offers online learning, practical workshops, refresher and advanced education, and individual guidance. Our main areas include:

• Mentoring and support for developing your practice.

Online theory gives you time to build your understanding before practical training. Small-group workshops allow for individual feedback, while assessment and ongoing support help you continue developing your skills beyond the training room.

Contributing to our industry

Alongside my teaching and clinical work, I serve on the Executive Committee of the New Zealand Association of Registered Beauty Professionals, with responsibilities relating to cosmetic tattooing and government regulations. I also contribute to standards and qualification review discussions. This work reflects my commitment to clear treatment boundaries, practical infection prevention and education that supports responsible practice.

Based in Northland, teaching more widely.  I’m based in Whangārei Heads and deliver workshops around New Zealand, with online learning and selected international training opportunities. Whether you are adding electro-epilation to your services, returning after time away or looking for help with a particular technique, I’m happy to discuss your experience and help you choose a suitable starting point.
