Advanced Beauty Therapy Training New Zealand
Elevating Clinical Standards in Electrolysis & Advanced Aesthetic Practice
Advanced Aesthetic Training exists to raise the standard of professional education within New Zealand’s beauty and aesthetics industry.
Founded by practising electrologist Michaella Messenger (since 1987), our programmes are built on nearly four decades of clinical experience, formal education development, and industry leadership.
We specialise in:
• Electrolysis (permanent hair removal)
• Blood-Borne Pathogen & Infection Control
• Cosmetic Tattooing foundations
• Laser & Non-Laser Hair Removal theory
• Emerging Electrical Therapies education
Our focus is clear: education that protects therapists, protects clients, and strengthens the credibility of our industry.
Addressing the Gaps in the Learning Journey
There is currently a significant gap in structured education for electrical-based beauty modalities in New Zealand. While electrical therapies are embedded within Level 5 Beauty Therapy qualifications, many practitioners entering the industry do not undertake this level of study — leaving a knowledge gap in safety, energy-based modalities, and tissue response.
Advanced Aesthetic Training is actively developing structured education pathways to bridge this gap, ensuring therapists understand:
• Energy-based treatment principles
• Tissue response and safety protocols
• Infection control compliance
• Responsible clinical decision-making
• The science behind the modalities they use
Our Blood-Borne Pathogen & Infection Control programme is designed to meet modern expectations of hygiene, cross-contamination prevention, and professional accountability — particularly relevant for electrolysis, cosmetic tattooing, and any invasive or skin-penetrating procedure.
Education Grounded in Experience
Michaella previously owned and operated a registered NZQA Private Training Establishment delivering micro-credentials listed on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework in Electrolysis and advanced hair removal modalities. She currently serves as an Executive Committee Member of the NZ Association of Registered Beauty Professionals (NZARBP), holding the portfolios for Cosmetic Tattooing and Government Regulations.
Her work continues to focus on advancing formal education pathways and strengthening professional standards within the aesthetics sector.
