Blood Borne Pathogens & Infection Control Education
Welcome, and thank you for your interest in our Blood Borne Pathogens and Infection Control Education.
This course is designed for anyone who may reasonably anticipate exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) while performing their professional duties. This includes treatments or services where you, your team, your equipment, or your working environment may come into contact with blood, bodily fluids, or airborne droplets.
Completion of this education is strongly recommended for all personal appearance professionals, clinics, and salons where infection control and client safety are essential.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Identify relevant New Zealand legislation, standards, and guidelines that apply to personal appearance clinics and salons
- Understand blood borne and other infectious pathogens, including how they spread
- Recognise how infection and blood borne risks are identified and communicated in the workplace
- Correctly select, use, and care for personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Understand the differences between sterilisation, disinfection, and sanitisation of tools and equipment
- Develop and apply a practical exposure control plan suitable for New Zealand workplaces
